The surprising truth about what motivates us

This lively RSAnimate, adapted from Dan Pink’s talk at the RSA, illustrates the hidden truths behind what motivates us at home and in the workplace.  Dan Pink tells us that people whose work involve cognitive activity requires a very different form of reward. This video is a must see for all mathematics teachers. Mathematics is a cognitive science. Teachers must be able create the environment Dan Pink describes in our math classes to motivate our students to learn and love the subject.  Extrinsic reward will not simply work. It might, if we all ask students to do in their math class is mechanical practice of computational procedures.

  1. ” Dan Pink did it again with “Drive.” He talks about what truly motivates us. It’s a great read for people who want to break out of the extrinsic rewards mold! It also gives people who are in a struggling situation. I recommend Dan Pink’s books for all young people who “feel bad” about not having the perfect job or lifestyle. Reading Pink’s books will give you hope to truly follow your own desires because in the end, this is most profitable!
